The Division of Undergraduate Studies at the Pennsylvania State University invites proposals for the 2020 DUS Conference. We seek proposals that provide innovative scholarship and practices that contribute to the field of academic advising.

Proposals and abstracts should:

  • State a clear purpose and key objectives
  • Contribute to the field of academic advising
  • Reflect a creative perspective
  • Engage a wide audience
  • When applicable, ground evidence in research
  • Use sound writing practices
  • Encourage interaction from the audience

SUBMISSION DEADLINE: Tuesday, May 15

Proposals will be reviewed in blind format as they are received. Proposal authors will be notified of decisions by mid May. Conference registration fees for presenters will be waived; however, travel costs are the responsibility of the presenter.

CONCURRENT PRESENTATION FORMATS

Lecture/Discussion: 60-minute session by one or two presenters addressing a specific topic related to the conference theme and inviting questions/comments from participants.

Panel: 60-minute session by a small group of presenters who discuss their topic from different perspectives and typically engage each other as well as invite audience participation/questions/comments. Lead presenters are responsible for recruiting additional members of their panels.

Workshop: 60-minute “how-to” sessions designed to address best practices, new techniques/ideas, and personal development. This format allows extra time for active participation of attendees. Workshops should be highly interactive.

TECHNOLOGY & FACILITIES

The annual conference takes place at the Penn Stater Conference Center Hotel, University Park, PA. Every presentation room will be equipped with an LCD projector, a laptop computer, video screen, podium with microphone, and quality audio speakers. Other technology needs may be available upon request.
