HMS Detroit Battle For Lake Erie by Robert and Thomas Malcomson
Main Article Content
Abstract
Interest in the War of 1812 continues to flourish as is shown by the continuing publication of books and articles and such activities as conferences, commemorations of anniversaries, and re-enactments. Both popular and scholarly interest are evident and, fortunately, some of the recent works, including the one under review, offer good value to both camps. Aside from the attention given to remains of American soldiers found at Snake Hill near Fort Erie, most of the limelight recently appears to have been directed towards ships and naval matters. There was the underwater investigation in spring 1990 of the Hamilton and Scourge, part of a continuing fascination with those vessels. Almost two years previously, there was the launch of the reconstructed US Brig Niagara at Erie, Pennsylvania. The authors cite this occasion as the source for HMS Detroit. The Battle for Lake Erie.
