Main Article Content
Abstract
Presque Isle contains many resources for Erie. The protected harbor provided by Presque Isle is the reason European man settled at Erie and why the City of Erie grew. Presque Isle State Park is the major source of tourism income for the City because it is the most heavily used state park in the United States. The vast majority of people come for the beaches, boating, bicycling, or just for a stroll, however, the Park contains areas of unsurpassed beauty and natural diversity. The uniqueness of Presque Isle State Park has been recognized in its designation as a National Natural Landmark by the National Park Service in 1967.
