Hard Times: The Life and Music of Harry T. Burleigh, published in 1990 by Scarecrow Press of Methuen, New Jersey and London, England is the eighth volume of series devoted to biographies of North American composers from colonial times to the present. Mrs. Simpson’s well-researched volume is an invaluable addition to the annals of American music history.
