Main Article Content
Abstract
The Pennsylvania Population Company was founded in 1792 by John Nicholson, who at the time was Comptroller- General of Pennsylvania. The company was created as a result of the state legislature’s decision to sell newly acquired lands in northwestern Pennsylvania. “An Act for the Settlement of Vacant Lands Within This Commonwealth,” signed by Governor Mifflin on April 3, 1792, set into motion a series of events that would cause many personal hardships and legal battles.
