The Pontiacs Black Baseball to Remember
Main Article Content
Abstract
The Pontiacs, the crowd-drawing predominantly black baseball team of the Glenwood and Lake Shore Leagues, was in that special world of black baseball teams that were so much a part of the American Sports scene before Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier in 1947. Local baseball fans appreciated them for their quickness, their skills, their innovativeness, and their dedication to the game of baseball. What follows is a tribute to all the proud wearers, both living and dead, of Carl Longnecker’s gray and red: The Pontiacs.
