Abstract
During the Civil War, the 83rd Pennsylvania Volunteer In fantry earned a well-deserved reputation as “One of the very best regiments in the Service.” It fought on virtually all the eastern battlefields and suffered the second highest number of battle deaths of any Union regiment.
