Summer Camps at Edinboro Lake
Main Article Content
Abstract
Memories of summer camp and the friendships made there can last a life time. For more than half a century, these warm friendships and memories of campfires and crafts, swimming and sailing, were made on the shores of Edinboro Lake in southern Erie County, Pennsylvania. From the 1920s through the 1960s, residential camps for boys and girls were operated by several husband and wife partners, beginning with Lynn Dundon and his wife Goldie. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Whipple later operated the camps established by the Dundons. Also at the original Dundon site, and later across the lake, a large portion of Edinboro camp history was defined by the Harrison family. For more than a quarter century, Mr. and Mrs. B.R. Harrison, and then their son James and his wife Shirley, were owners and operators of Edinboro summer camps, providing the experiences that made memories for hundreds of children.
