Abstract

If ever there was a team of destiny, it was the 1960 Pittsburgh Pirates. How else can this be explained: in that season’s World Series, the New York Yankees out-hit the Pirates by a .338 to .256 batting average, out-slugged them .528 to .355, and out-scored them by more than doubling Pittsburgh’s cumulative run total, 55 runs to 27.
