Abstract
In the annals of Western Pennsylvania architecture, there may be no more memorably magnificent name than Maximilian Nirdlinger. And yet, his stone remains, if not exactly unturned, then let us say unpolished. Despite an occasional article highlighting a select aspect of his work, the story of Nirdlinger’s career is still obscure and incomplete.1 This column aims to further illuminate Nirdlinger’s trajectory as an architect, ascendant for 40 years, which then took turns he himself may not have predicted.
