Abstract

In the aftermath of the notorious Plessey v. Ferguson Supreme Court decision that legalized segregation under the fallacious “separate but equal” doctrine, Woodrow Wilson argued that “Segregation is not humiliating, it’s a benefit.” Six decades later, after Brown v. Topeka Kansas overturned legalized racial separation, George Wallace promised his supporters “Segregation now, segregation tomorrow, segregation forever.” Sadly, today there are once again loud and insistent voices calling for a return to separationist policies that foster racism, hatred, divisiveness, and conflict. These proponents rely on fear, skepticism, and misinformation to spread their self-serving propaganda.
