Western Pennsylvania Sports Museum: Ten-Pin Pioneer

Abstract

Born in Kingstree, South Carolina, in 1918, Louise Fulton migrated with her family to Pittsburgh as a young girl. The family settled in the East End neighborhood of Garfield, where Louise enjoyed roller skating and playing tennis and softball. She competed in softball at Peabody High School and also played basketball. But Louise did not take up the sport she is best known for, bowling, until her 20s, when she began to bowl duckpins.
