North By Northwest: Teachers, Artists, Friends

Abstract

Amidst the dynamic art scene of late 19th and early 20th century America, Northwestern Pennsylvania was keen to make its own contributions. Though a variety of regional artists influenced the fine arts during this period, two are unique. Laura Wilson Luce and Martha Jane Herpst not only excelled in their artistic endeavors; they created a legacy of service and mentorship passed down from one to another that has bettered an entire community.
