Abstract
EDITOR’S NOTE: This article is a condensed version of Mr. Douglass’ paper, “A Political and Economic Analysis of the Election of 1896 in Erie, Pennsylvania." The full length version discusses whether or not 1896 in Erie was a “critical election” as that term is used by political scientists and historians and analyzes the impact of religious affiliation on the Erie voter.
