Call for New Reviewers

Educational Media Reviews Online (EMRO) is always looking for new reviewers.

There are many great reasons to become a reviewer, including:

  • Your review is an open access publication
  • You are providing service to the librarian profession by evaluating films that can be added to many different library collections
  • You become aware of films that may be of interest, and you can promote to your users (for student or faculty research, general interest, classroom instruction, etc.)

Expertise in a subject is not required, but interest and knowledge are helpful.

Films most frequently fall into these subjects:

  • Art/Music
  • Business
  • Environmental Studies
  • Film Studies (Foreign Films)
  • Health/Gender Studies
  • History
  • Political Science
  • Religious Studies
  • Science/Technology
  • Social Science
  • Other subject interest/expertise is welcome.

Eligibility Requirements and How to Volunteer

Reviewers must be current or former librarians, educators, or film critics. Reviewers are expected to complete a minimum of four reviews annually.

Please submit the EMRO Reviewer Interest form if you would like to volunteer to review.

The Reviewer’s Commitment

Your review means a great deal to our readers, the scholarly community at-large, the film team, and, of course, to us, the EMRO editorial team. We could not function without you.

For this reason, please take your commitment seriously. Once you agree to review a film, we expect you to follow through on your commitment. If you find you can’t meet the due date, don’t worry. Just contact the Editor for an extension, and we’ll find a date that works for us both.

Timeline for Reviews

Once a reviewer accepts an assignment, completed reviews should be submitted within six weeks of receiving access to the screener version of the film.
