Curator's Corner: Flaherty Family Connection

Abstract

Two objects in the Heinz History Center collection tell a story of a large Pittsburgh family of strong, independent women. We recently discovered that these seemingly unrelated objects were intimately connected. One a vest, lovingly crafted of heirloom quilt scraps and cherished family images, fashioned as a gift to commemorate a mother’s 80th birthday; the other, a pair of well-worn Air Force standard issue combat boots.
