Abstract
Residents throughout the greater Pittsburgh region became accustomed to the distinctively blue painted vehicles with the smiling company mascot of a "Handy Flame" and the slogan "Gas is Best." For more than a century the Equitable Gas Company not only provided services to its customers, but also provided jobs for a substantial workforce.
