Western Pennsylvania Sports Museum: What to Say: Reflecting on Roberto Clemente

Abstract

Roberto Clemente left this world 50 years ago, his plane lost en route to deliver aid to earthquake victims in Nicaragua. On this 50th anniversary of Clemente’s final season, his 3,000th regular season hit, and his tragic death, it is hard to know what one can say or write that has not been said before. Yet it feels important and even necessary to speak his name, to remember his talent, and to ensure that his legacy is recognized and remembered.
