This environment is characterized by low wave energy and relatively strong tidal currents. The nourished sand is significantly coarser than the native sediment. Nevertheless, the grains remain mobile and the beach displays a range of dynamic morphological features, including sandbars and runnels, which have been observed to form, migrate, and disappear over timescales of days to weeks. The coastal zone of the Guianas is characterized by high dynamics caused by migrating mudbanks.
